Letter from the President of the Decebal Association
knight-officer Dr. Ervino Curtis

My encounter with Romania began in 1971 and led me gradually and intensely to a spiritual and material symbiosis with all that Romania represents. With the history and traditions of its people, with its territory, with the natural features of its habitat, and with human artifacts.

Over a 30-year period, I have seen the merits and aberrations of the Ceausescu regime, the merits and aberrations of the revolution and post – communism that is slowly ferrying Romania to Europe.

During this historical journey my life also took place. In 1976, after a four-year struggle with the Romanian Communist state, I happily married a Romanian woman.

This fact was instrumental in transforming the interest I had into a passion that involved my whole self and extended its arms to everything Romanian.

Then always thanks to my wife, I gathered a whole series of human relationships with relatives and friends scattered all over Romania. Later I developed economic, political and cultural relations between public and private institutions in Trieste and Romania.

In 1987, together with some friends, I founded the Decebal Association, which had an intense activity for a decade, later slowing down its initiatives.

Now with this site I want to collect all the cultural experiences I have gone through and re-present on the network scenario an activity of the Association by developing the topics already covered in the past and also new research.

The site, in a continuous state of flux, will offer texts, photographs, documents, bibliographies but also give information and opportunities for connections and exchange of experiences.

The glue of it all is a passion for Romania, its people, its culture and its history, and a willingness to pass this on to those who would like to learn more about these Latino brothers and sisters.

Anyone who wants to participate in this experience is welcome.
